
The wedge is basically
an inclined plane turned on its side. You might ask " Well what's the difference between the two simple machines then?". The
difference is that while the inclined plane helps you get things to a higher position, the wedge helps you push things apart
and while the inclined plane is stationery and you must do all the work, the wedge does all the work for you. Some examples
of a wedge are: a shovel, the blades of a knife, and an axeblade. The ends of the two inclined planes that make up a wedge
can also split things apart.
