Wedge

wedge.jpg

The wedge is basically an inclined plane turned on its side. You might ask " Well what's the difference between the two simple machines then?". The difference is that while the inclined plane helps you get things to a higher position, the wedge helps you push things apart and while the inclined plane is stationery and you must do all the work, the wedge does all the work for you. Some examples of a wedge are: a shovel, the blades of a knife, and an axeblade. The ends of the two inclined planes that make up a wedge can also split things apart.
