The pulley can be used
in two different ways:
It can change the direction
of a force
or
It can change the amount
of force
A pulley is a simple machine
made with a rope, belt or chain wrapped around a grooved wheel and it's used in things like flag poles and cranes. Pulleys
are good for moving objects to hard to find places. Although the effort is still the same without a pulley, it feels
much easier using a pulley because you are pulling the rope part of the pulley down. In the pulley system, when you use two
or more pulleys it may increase or decrease the mechanical advantage of the system.
